Dr. Alessia de Lucia
Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences
University of Bologna, Italy
Alessia De Lucia obtained her degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2015.
Following her graduation at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) in Weybridge (UK), she was trained in veterinary bacteriology, working on the isolation, identification and control of Salmonella.
To pursue her interest in the public health aspects of veterinary science she undertook a PhD in the epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella in pig farms.
She is directly involved in a research projects focusing on the control of Salmonella and antimicrobial resistant (AMR) bacteria in pigs. Her research focuses on applied methods for the control of AMR and on the molecular genetic mechanisms involved in the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial-resistant Salmonella and E.coli isolates.
Alessia is also studying the application of the oral fluid as alternative diagnostic medium for Salmonella monitoring in pig herds.
